SRGT 101 - Introduction to Surgical Technology

Students will be able to discuss the profession of the Surgical Technologist.

SRGT 110 - Introduction to Sterile Processing

Students will be able to submit required information into the Castlebranch database and complete healthcare facility required immunizations.

Students will be able to describe HIPAA requirements and how to protect one's self against Blood Borne Pathogens.

Students will be able to differentiate the areas within the Sterile Processing Department and the role of the Sterile processing technician.

Students will be able to assemble a basic minor instrument tray, relate a count sheet, and identify commonly used surgical instruments.

SRGT 111 - Sterile Processing

Students will be able to explain anatomy, microbiology and medical terminology frequently used in the healthcare setting.

Students will be able to identify the proper sterilization process for each type of instrumentation and eliminate sources of contamination and infection as it pertains to the Sterile Processing Department.

Students will be able to describe clearly and demonstrate the process that a surgical tray must follow from the Sterile Processing Department to the Operating Room and back to the Sterile Processing Department.

Students will be able to identify the different career paths available in the Sterile Processing Department.

SRGT 112 - Sterile Processing Clinical

Students will be able to demonstrate decontamination cleaning, preparing and packaging instruments, sterilization and disinfection, storage and distribution, and quality assurance processes.

Students will be able to choose appropriate attire and PPE to wear in each area of the Sterile Processing Department.

Students will be able to assemble surgical trays independently and demonstrate the duties of a Sterile Processing Technician at assigned clinical sites. Demonstrate teamwork and good customer service.

Students will be able to pass the CRCST Certification Exam provided by IAHCSMM upon completing all required courses, SRGT 110, SRGT 111, and SRGT 112.
