PTD Course Student Learning Outcomes

PTD 101 - Painting/Decorating 1st Year Apprenticeship

Students will be able to apply industry safety standards including OSHA 10, first aid and CPR.

Students will be able to properly prepare a site for a variety of applications.

Students will be able to apply mathematics and measurement skills in classroom assignments and projects.

Students will be able to utilize multiple modes of communication towards enhancing effectiveness in the work environment.

Students will be able to solve equations with variables and determine materials required using flow rates, coating thickness and square footage.

PTD 151 - Painting/Decorating 2nd Year Apprenticeship

Students will be able to apply a variety of finishes with both power and non-power equipment.

Students will be able to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions and learn percentages and ratios. Students will use fractions and decimal system to understand mixing rations of coatings, glues, and machinery operation.

Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to safely use ladders and understand confined space requirements.

Students will be able to identify the material needed for various surfaces, including proper color mixing.

Students will be able to demonstrate mastery of chemistry as it applies to the trade.

PTD 201 - Painting/Decorating 3rd Year Apprenticeship

Students will be able to apply their knowledge of both interior and exterior finishing as well as wall covering adhesives on the work site.

Students will be able to convert square feet to yards or meters and use multiple scales to interpret mechanical drawings. Students will also interpret scale drawings and use the information to compute labor time and material requirements to perform.

Students will be able to practice the proper and safe use of scaffolding.

Students will be able to demonstrate the theory and application of both conventional and airless spray painting applications.

PTD 251 - Painting/Decorating 4th Year Apprenticeship

Students will be able to demonstrate the proper and safe use of forklifts and JLG scissor and boom mechanics.

Students will be able to demonstrate the use of electrostatic spray systems and the application of protective coatings on metal surfaces.

Students will be able to synthesize knowledge of environmental issues and regulations, including but not limited to lead abatement, silica awareness, etc.
