PLST Course Student Learning Outcomes
PLST 101 - Plasterers 1st Year Apprenticeship
Students will be able to apply industry safety standards including OSHA 10, first aid and CPR.
Students will be able to accurately calculate project materials by using basic methods such as symbol recognition, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
Students will be able to demonstrate mastery of a variety of tools and techniques, such as stilts.
Students will be able to utilize multiple modes of communication towards enhancing effectiveness in the work environment.
Students will be able to estimate cubic yards of sand and cement for projects. Math used; Applied Algebra, Applying Geometry. Trig metric formula's with right angle trigonometry.
Students will be able to communicate accumulated technical data effectively with co-workers to apply that information toward completion of work assignments.
PLST 151 - Plasterers 2nd Year Apprenticeship
Students will be able to apply intermediate math calculations such as converting fractions and percentages, determining area, volume and cubic yard calculations and solving ratio and proportion problems.
Students will be able to calculate the area geometric figures to solve various installations they encounter on the job sites, such as ornamental plaster work and cornice molds.
Students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in applying base and finishing coats, including understanding of materials.
Students will be able to read basic blueprints.
PLST 201 - Plasterers 3rd Year Apprenticeship
Students will be able to apply math calculations for the industry, including conversion of mixed numbers to improper fractions, matching geometric figures to their correct descriptions, calculating geometric volumes, etc.
Students will be able to perform repairs, special finishes and basic layout.
Students will be able to interpret blueprints of intermediate complexity.
Students will be able to reduce proper fractions, convert mixed numbers to improper fractions, add and subtract fractions, shaping and cutting various sizes of EPS boards and on any exterior insulation finish systems.
PLST 251 - Plasterers 4th Year Apprenticeship
Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of math as it applies to actual work projects, such as completing.
Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of regular drywall and veneer base.
Students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of advanced special finishes, sprayed-on plaster, acoustic, fireproofing and radiant heat.
