HUM 101 - Introduction to Humanities I

Students will be able to analyze the great works of human achievement in relation to specific historical and social contexts.

Students will be able to identify the value systems influencing the aesthetic choices of various cultures.

HUM 102 - Introduction to Humanities II

Students will be able to identify the creators of significant works of art and influential ideas.

Students will be able to trace the evolution and influence of key philosophical ideas through the creative works issuing from a variety of cultures.

HUM 105 - The Art of Film

Students will be able to analyze films and writings about film as expressions of values within a historical and social context.

Students will be able to use the language of film criticism accurately.

HUM 106 - Introduction to the American Motion Picture

Students will be able to analyze the literal and symbolic meaning of film from the perspectives of direction, acting, writing, scoring, and special effects.

Students will be able to identify chronological trends in film genre evolution as expressed by American innovative films, leading actors and directors.

Students will be able to use the language of film criticism to analyze and compare specific films.

HUM 198 - Special Topics in Humanities

Students will be able to demonstrate ability to relate that specific focus to society, politics, and other branches of human constructs and concerns.

Students will be able to exhibit knowledge of the specific substantive area of the Humanities being offered by the course curriculum.

HUM 207 - Jesus of Nazareth: A Historical Examination of the Man Who Would be Called Christ

Students will be able to identify the key sources about Jesus of Nazareth.

Students will be able to critically assess and contrast the key sources.

Students will be able to synthesize sources and methods to form conclusions about the historical Jesus.

HUM 211 - Survey of Chinese Culture

Students will be able to analyze the contributions of political figures, philosophers, artists, business leaders, and military leaders significant in shaping the development of Chinese cultural values, political values, and social values.

Students will be able to trace the development or manifestations of a major theme, concept, or issue through the cultural products, social configurations, political ideologies, and religious beliefs characteristic of Chinese culture.

HUM 295 - Issues in Humanities

Students will be able to exhibit knowledge of the specific substantive area of Humanities being studied.

Students will be able to synthesize existing knowledge, abilities and skills with new practical skills while gaining theoretical understanding of the substantive area of Humanities being taught.
