HIT 180 - Health Information Management

Students will be able to demonstrate the setup of a computer workstation with appropriate networking capabilities according to the networking standards which will include routers, switches and other networking services.

Students will be able to describe and apply the regulatory requirements as given by the Department of Health and Human Services as well as the laws governing such regulations. This includes the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) regulations.

Students will be able to describe the procedure for gathering health-related information for inpatients, outpatients and emergency patients according to regulatory agencies and describe the flow of data through different healthcare departments.
