Students will be able to develop a family newsletter.

ECE 126 - Social/Emotional Development for Infants and Toddlers

Students will be able to create a developmentally appropriate toy or game to support the social/emotional development of infants and toddlers.

Students will be able to observe the social/emotional development of infants and toddlers and compare observed characteristics to typical developmental milestones.

ECE 127 - Role of Play for Infants and Toddlers

Students will be able to create a developmentally appropriate activity and toy or game to support learning through play for infants and toddlers.

Students will be able to observe the play of infants and toddlers and compare observed characteristics to typical stages of play.

ECE 129 - Environments for Infant and Toddler

Students will be able to design a developmentally appropriate classroom environment for infants and for toddlers.

Students will be able to observe an infant/toddler program and compare observed features to recommended best practice in infant/toddler environments.

ECE 130 - Infancy

Students will be able to explain how attachment relationships build the foundation for quality infant-toddler curriculum.

Students will be able to demonstrate strategies that reflect principles of universal design for learning within infant/toddler environments.

Students will be able to compare infant and toddler observed characteristics to typical developmental milestones.

ECE 154 - Literature for Preschool Children

Students will be able to select a developmentally appropriate book for young children and plan three extension activities appropriate for different curriculum content areas.

Students will be able to select a developmentally appropriate children's book to read aloud, develop an activity plan including a visual aid, and present the activity in class.

ECE 155 - Literacy and the Young Child

Students will be able to design developmentally appropriate literacy activities for young children.

Students will be able to locate three reliable, professional ECE resources for developmentally appropriate literacy activities and write a critical thinking paper.

ECE 190 - Professionalism in Early Care and Education

Students will be able to effectively apply the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct to resolve ethical dilemmas.

Students will be able to evaluate their level of professional development and create a professional development plan using industry specific tools.

Students will be able to use the regulatory/public policy processes to advocate for issues in ECE by developing an advocacy action plan.

ECE 198 - Special Topics in ECE

Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and the application of key concepts in Early Childhood Education through specific assignments and/or projects identified at the beginning of the course.

ECE 200 - The Exceptional Child

Students will be able to identify local, state & national resources for children with disabilities and their families and create a resource directory.

Students will be able to interview a parent of a young child with a disability and write a summary and reflection.

Students will be able to research one developmental disability common in early childhood and write a research paper.

ECE 204 - Principles of Child Guidance

Students will be able to identify social, developmental, and environmental factors that influence child behavior.

Students will be able to design a behavior intervention plan based on a case study of child challenging behavior.

Students will be able to practice and discuss a variety of positive guidance techniques.

ECE 210 - Observation, Documentation and Assessment of Young Children

Students will be able to assess the growth and development of a young child using the ASQ.

Students will be able to observe and assess the overall development of a young child using a variety of specific strategies and tools, and then interpret and analyze the results in a child assessment portfolio.

Students will be able to practice observing and documenting child development using specific techniques.

ECE 231 - Preschool Practicum: Early Childhood Lab

Students will be able to plan and implement a five-day lesson plan for preschool age children.

Students will be able to use observation, documentation, and assessment strategies to develop a portfolio for one preschool age child.

Students will be able to write a teaching philosophy statement.

ECE 232 - Practicum: Infant and Toddler

Students will be able to plan and implement a five-day lesson plan for toddlers.

Students will be able to plan and implement a month-long lesson plan for an infant.

Students will be able to use observation, documentation, and assessment strategies to develop a portfolio for one infant or toddler.

ECE 240 - Administration of the Preschool

Students will be able to analyze an ECE program budget scenario and plan strategies to address budget concerns.

Students will be able to interview a director/administrator of an early childhood education program and write a summary and reflection paper.

Students will be able to review child care regulations and respond to critical thinking questions.

ECE 244 - Practicum in Administration in ECE Programs

Students will be able to plan and implement a five-day lesson plan for preschool age children.

Students will be able to review child care regulations and develop a compliance plan.

Students will be able to shadow two ECE program directors and compare and contrast their management/administration approaches in a written reflection.

ECE 250 - Introduction to Early Childhood Education

Students will be able to create an appropriate classroom design for preschool age children.

Students will be able to define Developmentally Appropriate Practices in Early Childhood Education and explain its importance to the profession.

Students will be able to develop a personal philosophy statement of Early Care and Education.

ECE 251 - Curriculum in Early Childhood Education

Students will be able to compare two early childhood curriculum models in an observation and summary paper.

Students will be able to design a five day lesson plan for children ages 3-5 years old.

Students will be able to examine child development through the curriculum in a child case study and presentation.

ECE 252 - Infant-Toddler Curriculum

Students will be able to observe an infant/toddler program and compare observed practices to recommended best practices for infants and toddlers.

Students will be able to observe and assess an infant/toddler environment using a checklist.

Students will be able to plan developmentally appropriate curriculum for infants/toddlers.

ECE 280 - Developmentally Appropriate Foundations in Early Childhood Instruction

Students will be able to engage in reflection of teacher instructional practice and professional growth.

Students will be able to analyze effective instruction and leadership strategies aligned to DAP and NEPF.

Students will be able to synthesize connection between DAP practices and the NEPF utilizing the NEPF tool.

Students will be able to design and implement a lesson plan that aligns with the NEPF standards incorporating Developmentally Appropriate Practices.

ECE 290 - Internship in Early Childhood Education

Students will be able to demonstrate application of knowledge and practical experience in Early Childhood Education through specific assignments and/or projects identified at the beginning of the course.
