AAE 180 - Introduction to Design Principles

Students will be able to use basic design principles to develop abstract projects of formal composition.

Students will be able to use iteration and develop processes as a mode of critical thinking.

Students will be able to develop both 2-D and 3-D media representations for their ideas.

Students will be able to identify and utilize basic color theory in their projects.

Students will be able to apply strategies to enhance effectiveness of multiple modes of communication in the workplace.

Students will be able to analyze what constitutes negative attitudes, the impact these have on conflict, and apply conflict resolution methods to workplace situations.

AAE 280 - Design Foundations II

Students will be able to analyze and articulate the interrelationships between spatial principles, design concepts, and representational methods introduced in earlier coursework (AAE 180).

Students will be able to apply foundational spatial and formal design strategies to develop architectural proposals that explore the manipulation of space, form, and material.

Students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in multiple forms of visual communication - including drawing, photography, and model-making—as tools for investigation and design development.

Students will be able to evaluate and apply principles of color theory and shadow casting in both 2D and 3D representational systems to enhance the clarity and effectiveness of spatial representation.

AAE 282 - Design Foundations III

Students will be able to describe the fundamental languages and key elements of architectural design, including spatial, formal, material, and experiential aspects.

Students will be able to apply theoretical, methodological, and communication systems using a variety of media such as sketching, drafting, modeling, and digital image editing/3D visualization.

Students will be able to analyze precedent studies to inform design responses addressing site context, programmatic requirements, building typologies, and environmental factors.

Students will be able to synthesize architectural design schemes, partis, and concepts that integrate multiple aspects of the design process.

AAE 283 - Design Foundation IV

Students will be able to examine design as a method of research.

Students will be able to compare and contract different theories of design processes.

Students will be able to examine physical and cultural conditions of project sites.

Students will be able to demonstrate advanced graphical documentation in both 2-D and 3-D formats.
